OCTOBER 2022
We've just finished a 2 week introduction course to Substance Designer and this material forms part of our closing assignment. As a first attempt at creating a stylized material, I'm pretty happy with how this HexTech Crystal came out - with the final result being reasonably close to the source material used.
I admidedly thought that creating a stylized material would be easier than a real-world material but I actually found it to be the opposite. A greater proportion of my time was spent fine tuning the shapes and introducing the right balance of colours and edge highlights into the material.
Two different versions of the HexTech Crystal have been included, as the lower detailed model closer matches the reference and was the main starting point when tackling this assignment.
I'm looking forward to being able to develop my skills further with Substance Designer and found this to be a very rewarding piece of software to use. This will definitely be integrated into my pipeline moving forward...
