Mechanical Arm Modelling in Maya

As part of my VFX 3D course, we had to create a functioning robotic arm in Maya. I found a reference image by WINGKK which I tried to replicate as best as I could. A link to the artists' work is here: https://www.turbosquid.com/3d-models/industrial-robot-arm-max/817138

2 months into learning 3D, this is my most ambitious model to date. I felt I made a jump in my 3D modelling skills to make this arm, I learnt a lot making this model and look forward to progressing my skills further on future projects.

The texturing of this model leaves a lot to be desired. I spent 95% of my time modelling and quickly had to put some colour on the model before the assignment deadline. I'm looking forward to getting to grips with textures in future projects and hope to come back to this in the future and give it a new lick of paint!

My first render in Arnold! I've made a jump with my 3D modelling in this assignment. It did, however, leave me with very little time to apply and learn texturing.
