Diamond Ring - Realistic Render

As part of our Christmas 2021 assignment, we had to bring a child's drawing to life, which was of a diamond ring. I decided to make a Tiffany diamond ring, which seemed like a good enough reason for someone to be upset about losing.

Having recently completed an assignment in Substance Painter, I decided to try and see if I could make a realistic render using Arnold. I admit, this wasn't the most complicated of projects, but it was a great introduction to using Arnold and playing with the different render and lighting settings, which is something I haven't done properly yet. I tried both CPU and GPU renders and the final image was made using the GPU render.

I was really happy with how the refraction of the diamond came out, even if it did take a few attempts to try and get the diamond positioned at the right angle. I tried a few lighting setups, including setting up my own lightbox but, in the end, a studio HDRI gave the best results.

I look forward to exploring renders further in Arnold!
